After the miserably-molasses like construction project that was 300 W. now finally behind us, a number of business are looking to a brighter (see: actually accessible) future in the area. Most recently, The Dough Miner announced their extended hours, now seeing the business open seven days a week. Neighbors T.F. Brewing, Tacos Garay, Kaisers, Fisher and Yoko Taco are no doubt all likely eyeing a busier future too.
Next up on the list – the grand “re-opening” of the 300 West liquor store, usually dubbed the wine store by virtue of the extensive selection of vino. News released today by the department’s press team confirms that August 31st will see the location celebrate in unusual style; hosting a first of its kind, day long educational event with special wine booths throughout the store. Staff will be on hand to guide customers through a variety of styles.
It should be noted this does not include actual tasting, which while many might roll their eyes at – it’s still a welcome baby step for the state controlled op, historically glacial in progress. The relaunch day mirrors similar positive trends over the past year. You might recall the NBA pop up store, and the recent Sandy store opening with a dedicated Utah proud section. It’s not the momentous gallop ahead some want, but nor is it complete inertia. I’ll gladly applaud anything that nudges the needle. Anyway, here’s the full press release from the DABS:
. . .
The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services (DABS) celebrates the end of the 300 West construction project in Salt Lake City with a grand reopening event of the state liquor and wine store on 280 W Harris Ave. Tiffany Clason, DABS executive director, says road construction impacted store access for employees, customers, and licensed businesses that rely on the store to acquire products for resale at their establishments.
The grand reopening is on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and will feature wine education booths throughout the store, says Clason. Harris Avenue store employees will present wine education, covering French, Italian, South African, and sparkling wines. The in-store wine education is a first for the DABS, says Clason, who also notes the event will not include wine tastings.
